Map of Second Renaissance Changemaking Ecosystem
Based on the tales of distant lands gathered from various travellers
This is a first pass on an impressionistic map of the second renaissance "paradigmatic changemakers" ecosystem. It shows some of the different communities, movements and spaces (primarily in the Global North) that aspire to and/or act to foster paradigmatic change with a second renaissance or “PIP” perspective.
It aims to give a sense of how proximate some of these communities are, and it provides some examples of organisations, projects, individuals and key concepts that form their core. We hope that this overview can stimulate playful discussion on who and what is part of the ecosystem, as well as an exploration of the key points of alignment and divergence within the space.
This map was produced by Matt Osborn and the Life Itself team. We emphasize that it is far from comprehensive, and is still indicative at this stage. It is based largely on the team’s intuitive understanding of the relations between different communities, individuals and ideas in the space. It’s far from fully accurate — even if accuracy in this context were possible. Furthermore, there are clearly many possible representations here.
We plan to update this map over the comings months and we welcome feedback. Please drop a comment or get in touch.
PS: we also have one early-stage idea we have is to organize some kind of community hackathon where folks can create and exchange their own maps. If that sounds interesting please get in touch and help us make it happen!
Love this so much, I could definitely get lost in this world. Thank you for a great conversation at The Stoa yesterday. Excited to see where this goes!
I've landed at Second Renaissance / Life Itself through deep diving Systems Change research, and I'm delighted to see several intersections on this map with my own direct life experience (namely, spiritual & contemplative traditions, personal healing, critique of power & ethical tech).
I'm a recently hired Systems Change & Healing Justice Facilitator out here in the middle of the USA... my focus is on queering Systems Change, and will be (co-)leading a Fellowship through building their own capstone projects.... I don't come from academia, my journey is very much circuitous... but I'm thoroughly enjoying the work y'all put out. It also gives me a lot to link into with how I offer Queer Dharma & Engaged Buddhism groups, classes, healing sessions (aside, but driving the primacy of being behind my SC work).
Anyway, just wanted to say the mycelium has reached across the pond. ;)
